I recently had 4 treatments of Picosure done and the laser technician accidentally went over my lips when she passed over the area above my lips. The area above my lips are super dry, flaky and now I'm seeing the pigmentation has faded causing my lips to look uneven. The clinic I went to tells me this is impossible with the 750 PicoSure. Is this true? What else could cause this?
Answer: Changes after your Picosure treatments It's concerning that you’re experiencing dryness, flakiness, and pigmentation changes after your Picosure treatments. While Picosure is generally a safe and effective laser for various skin concerns, unintended effects can occur, especially when the laser is applied to sensitive areas like the lips. Here are some points to consider: 1. Laser Sensitivity: The skin on and around the lips is particularly delicate, so even brief or unintended exposure to laser energy can cause irritation, dryness, and pigmentation changes. While the clinic states that this is unlikely with the 750 PicoSure, individual skin responses can vary. 2. Post-Procedure Effects: Dryness and flakiness are common side effects after laser treatments. These symptoms can sometimes extend to adjacent areas if the laser energy affects the skin there. 3. Pigmentation Changes: Although rare with Picosure, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation can occur, especially if the skin is more sensitive or if the laser energy is applied too aggressively or to unintended areas. 4. Other Factors: Environmental factors, pre-existing skin conditions, or even certain skincare products you may be using could exacerbate these symptoms. Recommendations: - Consult a Dermatologist: It's essential to get a professional opinion, preferably from a dermatologist who specializes in laser treatments, to assess the cause and recommend appropriate care. - Gentle Skincare: Use a gentle, hydrating lip balm or ointment to soothe the affected area. Avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients that could further irritate your skin. - Sun Protection: Ensure you’re protecting the area from sun exposure with a lip balm that contains SPF to prevent further pigmentation changes. - Follow-Up with the Clinic: If you're unsatisfied with the clinic's response, consider seeking a second opinion. They may be able to offer additional treatments or advice to help restore the pigmentation and health of your skin. Taking these steps should help address your concerns, but a thorough evaluation by a specialist is the best course of action to ensure proper care and recovery.

Answer: How long has it been since the threatment? Hello, From what I can see the change is very very mild, have you compared it to your pre treatment photos? Perhaps it was there before the pico sessions however it has now only come to your attention? It is very hard to consult online, I would recommend getting a in person consult at a local clinic. Thanks.

Answer: PicoSure treats hyperpigmentation Thank you for your photos. Honestly, I don't see anything on the photos that makes them look uneven. You have gorgeous lips.I do not believe PicoSure can cause any hyperpigmentation of the lips. In our practice we even have a separate treatment just for PicoSure lip rejuvenation, where we can achieve brighter and smoother looking lips. Have a beautiful day.Best, Dr.Anna Avaliani, NYC
