Incisions not completely closed. Can I apply new steri strips? (Photo)

Question

I am 20 days post BR. My ps told me that the steri strips could be removed at 3 weeks so I removed yesterday -- I took off in the shower since they were firmly adhered! The incisions around my aerolas are not completely closed and they sting and ache now that the pressure from the tape is gone and in some areas not fully adhered. Can I apply new strips and leave on for a few more weeks?

Thank you for your pictures.  it is up to your surgeon to reapply the Steri-Strips if this is necessary. It is best for you to revisit his or her office for an examination and professional recommendations. Best wishes.

Thank you for the question and photos. This is a question to your surgeon and should call their office. I, personally tape the incisions for 3 week as well, then advise the patient to apply coco butter or vitamin E oil on the scar. From the pictures, it looks like you are healing well. Good luck.

Hi and thanks for posting your question and pictures!Postoperative timing to complete healing of your incisions can vary. Although at 3 weeks post op after removing steri strips, you may have just removed fragile skin with the strips. Typically this will heal over with little to no problem with just the application of vaseline or single antibiotic ointment. I would advise you to be seen by your plastic surgeon to assess and give recommendations just to be safe.Best wishes!
