It's been 7 months since I had steroid injection on my abdomen . I was left with bumps on my belly after lipo and the steroid was suppose to help it . At first my fibroids went a way but now I'm left with white spots and looks like dents.it looks better now then what it did 2 , 3 months back but will this fully revert back to normal. Is this reversible ?

Answer: Steroids for contour after liposuction Thank you for the question and photos. Steroid injections are known to cause damage to fat cells and therefore making them "shrink." It's somewhat unpredictable though, and does have some other side effects such as the decreased pigmentation. Unfortunately, that can be permanent. You do have other options for treatment and so I'd recommend visiting a local PS for a consultation. Best wishes.

Answer: Correction of poorly performed liposuction Correcting poorly performed liposuction can be difficult and at times not possible.Much has to do with how much of that was removed.Overtreatment with liposuction is by far the most difficult to correct. Treatment options generally include revision liposuction and or fat transfer.Revision liposuction is based on evening out the contour by removing fat in the remaining thicker area. Fat grafting or fat transfer involves removing fat from other parts of the body and grafting the fat into the shallow areas. Fat grafting becomes Limited when areas have been over treated. In order for fat transfer to be successful there has to be a sufficient to base of tissue to graft into.Areas that I've been over treated with liposuction often have minimal tissue left between the skin and muscle layers. It's not possible to successfully graft fat directly into skin and grafting into the muscle area below this generally not give an aesthetic correction that's acceptable. steroid injections can serve two purposes. They can decrease inflammation and swelling that may be present after the procedure.Secondly steroids can cause fat atrophy decreasing the amount of fat.Fat atrophy is generally an undesirable side effects that is fairly uncommon after steroid injections. It is generally anundesirable Side effect and is a times reversible and at times not. Without a physical examination is difficult to make an accurate assessment in regards to what potential improvements can be made.Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
