Question

How long does it take to drain? When should I worry? I am already on antibiotics but my surgeon seems to not care and said just tough it out sometimes they spontaneously just explode too and everything gushes out hang in there and sent me on my way. My incision has been leaking brown old blood for 4 days now and seemed to get worse today

I would agree with the other surgeons in that it is really hard to know what is going on without knowing what happened during surgery and what you looked like before.  Also, without an actual physical exam, it's next to impossible to determine where this hematoma actually is.  If the blood is in the subcutaneous space (just below the skin), then simply waiting and letting it resolve may not be a bad idea.  But if you have a large collection around your implant, then this needs to be drained.  Leaving it in place simply increases your long-term risk for infection and capsular contracture.Best first step?  Call your surgeon and let him know what is going on.I hope that helps!
