Today I had a mini facelift under local anaesthetic and thought the results would be more subtle. It is obvious I have had a facelift, will this relax in a week when I'm due back to work?

Answer: Overdone after Facelift Thank you for your question. Of course, the results after a mini lift mean you are swollen and puffy therefore you appear very tight and slightly abnormal. The fluids will absorb and the skin will relax, this should be temporary and settle therefore giving you a nice contoured jawline. Please have regular follow ups with your surgeon. All The Best

The fact that it was a "minilift" does not guarantee that your result would be mini. A minilift could be overdone just as easily as a traditional lower facelift. Chances you are still swollen and distorted, and keep in mind that every lower facelift will "relax" over the first few weeks. Please give two weeks to settle before stressing any further.

Know that it is simply not possible to make an aesthetic judgement about the results of your surgery so soon after the procedure. You are in the acute stage when there is increasing inflammation and edema. While your may see considerable change over the first week, it is likely that your result will mature over months. Make certain that you follow up closely with your plastic surgeon for reassurance that your early postoperative appearance is expected. Often times, because of the changes and evolution of facial appearance over days to weeks, facial surgery may be more difficult emotionally than physically. Good luck with your recovery!
