Swelling and bruising one side only after lip fillers yesterday, what can I do to help this?

. I had lip fillers yesterday afternoon . The doctor said that my lips would go down about 20% once the swelling had gone however this morning one side is very swollen and I have bruising on my upper lip and dark bruising inside my mouth. It’s hard to show in the photos how uneven my lips look but the side without the bruising doesn’t look too bad however I’m worried that the other side won’t go down . What can I do to help the bruising and swelling ?.

This can be typical after lip filler. Icing, cold compresses and ibuprofen can give improvement. I would wait a full 2 weeks before judging the results. If it is after the two week wait, you can have the filler reversed with hyaluronidase.

Thank you for your question. It is common to have some bruising and swelling after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers which can last up to 2 weeks. You can apply cold compresses to the treated area to help reduce swelling. It is also advisable to avoid any NSAID’s as they tend to thin the blood and increase bruising and swelling. If you have any concerns please follow up with your injector. Best of Luck!

Thank you for the question. You can apply ice as needed and also arnica tablets to help reduce the swelling and bruising. It usually takes 3-7 days for the swelling to go down. However, in  some patients it may take up to two weeks.

Bruising and swelling are common side effects that accompany many of these cosmetic injections but for the best advice I encourage you to follow up with your plastic surgeon for an evaluation.  It is not uncommon for the bruising and swelling to actually get a little worse before it gets better, but any concerns should definitely be brought to your doctors attention.  I hope this helps!
