Laying on Stomach for Massage After Breast Implants?

Question

Hi, I was wondering if it is detrimental to lay one one's stomach for massage after breast implants. Will it cause or worsen lateral displacement? I already have some lateral displacement but want to enjoy a massage now and then, although not at the risk of worsening my outcome. Btw, I am over a year post op. Thanks in advance for your input!

Whether laying on your stomach for a massage would cause the pocket to stretch a year after surgery would be very dependent on your particular tissues and impossible to predict. I would not think it is a common occurrence. At this point the capsule around your implants should be well healed and as strong as it will ever be so unless you have a medical condition that causes poor wound healing it should be safe to go ahead and get your massages.

After recovery there is no problem flying on the stomach for massage or anything else. The capsule was formed around the prosthesis will prevent any migration.

As long as you are outside of your healing period which is usually for six weeks. You should be fine to get a massage.

Dear lrp,

	Thank you for your post.  I see patient's all the time for revisions.  The common demoninator is smooth implants that have ended up in their armpits with a very large gap in the middle.  While it is relatively safe to lay on your implants, the implants will eventually displace if you have a predisposition to them spreading.  If they are smooth implants, they are more likely to displace then if they are textured, as the textured implants tend to become adhesed.

At one year after a breast augmentation it should be perfectly fine to lie on one's stomach. Enjoy the  massage.

At one year after your breast augmentation surgery, you should be able to lie on your stomach and receive a massage without feat of further lateral displacement of the implants.

After a year laying on your stomach should be okay because the capsule has already been formed, holding the implant into position. The restriction is primarily for immediately after implant is placed and until the capsule is formed.

After one year, there is little risk of implants moving laterally from lying on your stomach. Early on, before the scar tissue formed, there may be some risk, but not much chance of problems at this point.
