I had lipo done about 4 months ago on various parts of my body, including my inner thighs and inner knees. Most of the bruising and swelling has gone, but I'm noticing more bruising after intense workouts behind my knees. It seems to resolve after a day or two but then comes right back when I complete an extra long run, climb, or bike ride. Is this normal?
Answer: Liposuction: Bruising after workouts Having bruising after liposuction is absolutely normal in the early post-operative period. It comes from blood pooling in the tissue after the fat is suctioned out. This is usually intense and can be deeply discolored early on, but then starts to fade as you heal and should be completely gone by 4-6 weeks after surgery. After the initial injury of surgery happens, there should not be any more bleeding, and your body just has to digest the old blood and fluid to get back to normal. If you are having recurrent bruising at 4 months post-op that is very atypical, and the bruising may not really be related to the surgery at all. I would definitely recommend a follow up with your plastic surgeon, but also possibly a visit with your primary care doctor to make sure there is nothing else actually causing your symptoms! Do not just write this off as aftermath of your surgery, it is better to get re-evaluated so you can get the treatment you may need (or reassurance if it is nothing to worry about).

Answer: Bruising after Liposuction & After care includes RF treatments (Venus Legacy, Exilis Ultra) Cellutone/zwave, hyperbaric oxygen This isn't typical and if it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. You may still have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Late bruising... This is pretty unusual and I'm not sure about the cause. If you feel it has a relationship to liposuction then see your surgeon.

Answer: Bruising and swelling after lipo can take months to fully subside While bruising and swelling can take a few months to fully go away after liposuction, most of the visible bruising discoloration is gone by two months postop. I'd suggest you see your plastic surgeon for a checkup to see if there is anything unusual going on.
