Liposuction of fat would decrease your basal metabolic rate correct? So doesn't that mean lipo will slow down your metabolism? There is less fat in your body so you would need less calories to maintain your weight?
Answer: BMR Your muscle mass has a more significant effect on your metabolic rate. Liposuction has not been shown to slow down metabolism in any way. BMR "calculators" are based on your height and weight. Yes, you will lose a few pounds with liposuction, but probably not more than 10. Even with the most aggressive liposuction, 5 liters is typically the max most surgeons remove at one time. SO, in reality, could it impact your BMR? Maybe, but only by a few calories per day.

Answer: Lipo and Metabolism? Thank you for your question. Removal of fat is unlikely to slow down your metabolism. It is, however, advisable to maintain reasonable diet and exercise plan so that the results of liposuction can be maintained and even enhanced. All The Best !

Answer: Lipo and metabolism If you can maintain your weight, then you will not gain additional fat just because of liposuction. The areas that are liposuctioned are less likely to become large, and any additional increases in fat weight will redistribute. To be sure, all of the effects of liposuction on lipid metabolism have not been worked out.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
