Tummy tuck incision healed but bleeding. Is this normal? (photos)

Thank you for your pictures. This probably represents one or two things either sutures that are surfacing at the suture line that have become infected. The other possibility would be small cysts that have developed along your suture line and have ruptured then express fluid or cheesy material. Visit with your plastic surgeon soon as possible. 

These probably represent "stitch abscesses" or localized infections of yet undissolved (or permanent) sutures. Seeing your surgeon about these can verify that opinion and provide proper reassurance, and treatment if needed. ALl the best.

Seek immediate medical attention, see your operative surgeon ASAP to address this issue so late after a TT surgery...  

I'm sorry to hear about the complication you have experienced after tummy tuck surgery. These types of superficial incision line problems are not unusual after tummy tuck surgery. What you describe sounds most like a “stitch abscess”;  these problems tend to be self-limited. Follow up with your plastic surgeon who will be your best resource when it comes to diagnosis and treatment; sometimes removal of an  exposed suture will expedite the healing process.Best wishes.

It sounds like this is a relatively minor issue (although, of course, you need to contact your own plastic surgeon to get appropriate care) that can occur after many procedures.  Most likely, it is a stitch abscess - one or more of your stitches has not completely dissolved yet (which is to be expected) but, in the process, it caused some irritation of the tissues and then, locally (ie, only there) an abscess.  The abscess burst, thereby draining itself.  Had you presented to your surgeon with the swelling, before it burst, he or she may have done exactly that - open it (although under more controlled conditions).Rarely, more serious problems can present, even at this relatively late stage of the recovery.  Assuming that this diagnosis is correct, I would suggest that you apply warm compresses, watch for systemic signs (fever, chills, sweats - unlikely but possible) and let it heal on its own.You should contact your PS to find out how he or she wants to treat this.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100
