When a foreign body, such as a breast implant or other medical device is placed into the body, a layer of scar tissue encapsulates it forming a capsule around the implant. Over time, this scar tissue can become hard and this if this occurs around a breast implant, it is called capsular contracture. This can occur with any type of breast implant. A mammogram is the right thing to do, and I recommend following up with your plastic surgeon after the mammogram.
With respect to style 20 implant recall, there were some style 20 breast implants recalled in the U.S., due to labeling issues, however they were not recalled due to safety issues.
