Can Kybella be used to help dissolve fat injected into the face?

Kybella can be used to dissolve fat away from it's FDA approved 'zone' in the submental area just like botox can be used on areas such as the neck or upper lip lines.  However, be mindful of the anatomy in any particular area where Kybella would be placed.  The area in the midface/cheek area encompasses the infraorbital nerve which provides sensation to your midface and upper lip areas.  

It's possible, but this carries significant risks to your facial nerves and the potential for contour irregularities if the fat "melts" irregularly.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO 

I would venture to say this is probably not the best idea, reason being is that there are nerves that allow you to smile etc within the facial region that kybella could affect.  There has been no study to prove that it does or does not yet but you would not want to be the "guinea pig" per se.  It has been used off label on other parts of the body other than the FDA recommended chin region.  I have seen some dubious results when it has been used on the abdomen but I have also seen some decent results.  The long and the short is that there is not enough information out there to make this recommendation.  I would follow up with your surgeon who performed your procedure and perhaps find an alternate solution.

Kybella is FDA approved to dissolve fat beneath the chin. Having said that, I have used Kybella to dissolve small areas of fat in other parts of the face following facial fat grafting in other offices. be sure to find an experienced surgeon/injector who has a through understanding of facial anatomy. As an example, a form of Kybella has been used in Brazil to dissolve fat beneath the eyes with good results. Kybella cannot be injected in the area of nerves where it can damage the nerve sheath.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  Because of the proximity to important facial nerves and blood vessels I would refrain from isolated injections into parts of the face.  I take a better safe than sorry approach with Kybella treatments.  Hope this helps.

Unfortunately there are many motor nerves in the mid face.  The inflammation associated with Kybella damages nerves, including motor nerves.  I like the idea of removing bad grafted fat with Kybella but the risk of causing unwanted damage is significant.  You are basically would be this doctor's science project.  Buyer beware.

Right now, Kybella is only FDA approved for use under the chin. In the right hands, however, Kybella can be used in other areas as off label use.

The hard lumps may be fat necrosis that will respond better to a steroid injection rather than Kybella. 

In clinical studies, Kybella injected in areas of facial nerves can produce temporary paralysis of the nerves. It is unclear whether or not this is from damage to the nerve itself or swelling. Depending on the area he injects, you may be putting some of the nerves at risk.

Thank you for the question.   I would not recommend using Kybella in this area.  Branches of your facial nerve, as well as important facial muscles that help move your mouth and lips are located in this area, and any adhesions or scar tissue that build up here as a result of Kybella may not have many good options to correct.  Good luck!

Kybella is approved for submental excess fat area because it is a safe zone and not affecting other tissues such as muscles, nerves,...
Kybella, for the same reason, is not recommended for lateral side of neck.
Aside from FDA approval, I would find it risky. Consulting with experienced physician with Kybella should be very helpful.
