9 days post BodyTite. Does this look like fluid or normal swelling? (Photo)

Question

Hello. I am 9dp Bodytite of the abdomen, flanks & arms. I had my 1 wk appt 2 days ago and the nurse said she thought I just had bad swelling in the abdomen but The Dr was unavailable. I’m concerned because my lower stomach is sticking out a little more, is very hard but can be pushed in where the VERY sore spot is. Does this swelling look normal? I’ve been walking around a lot and wearing spanx when out & adding the compression belt when at home. Thank you for your time!

Bruising and swelling can occur after BodyTite and will usually resolve in a few weeks. Please followup with your surgeon should the swelling not decrease soon.  Typically, you can return to sedentary activities within two to three days; full activity with exercise, within two to three weeks.

swelling is normal and so is some pain.  If you are unhappy with your results please speak to your physician and ensure he was a full body VASER HD liposuction physciain wtih expensive experience in body shaping and not just traditional fat reduction.  At this point you should be using compression, RF treatments like venus legacy / exilis ultra / inmode forma or contoura and lymphatic massage to get you through healing.   We always add shock wave therapy such as cellutone, z wave, and eclipse evive to help prvent scar tissue formation and ensure an even and smooth result. It will take 6-12 months to see the final outcome.   If you are unhappy you can get a revision procedure by an expert in VASER HD lipo + bodytite.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Looks like normal swelling but you should be evaluated by your physician to make sure it’s not a seroma.  Seromas are not a medical emergency however they can cause some pain and can be drained in the office

Significant swelling and seroma (fluid collection) or both possible after Bodytite. Seroma is less common. Hard to say based on a picture. Can only be determined in person. Close follow up with your surgeon is important.Regards,

Thank you for your question and photos. Body Tite is a procedure that can cause a significant amount of swelling. In our office, we have our patients wear a compression garment 18 hours per day for at least the first 2 weeks, longer if they are still swollen. This will help to reduce the amount of swelling you have and to help gain the maximum amount of tightening possible. Lymphatic massage is an excellent way to reduce swelling and speed recovery along. If you have any questions or concerns, I recommend you see the surgeon who performed the procedure. They will be able to guide you through the recovery process to achieve the best result possible. Hello and thanks for your questions and photos.  A large amount of swelling is somewhat typical after BodyTite procedures and the area where your appears to be bothering you is also an area where swelling is quite typical after liposuction alone with or without the BodyTite.  It seems that you may be overdoing it - You should not up walking around "a lot" at only just over a week out from your procedure.  In my practice, I would be encouraging you to be wearing a surgical support garment 24/7, not just a Spanx (though these are a great option after 3+ weeks).  My best advice would be to not be quite so active, wear surgical support garment 24/7, and follow up with your surgeon if you continue to have concerns, as what I'm seeing in the photo seems to not be concerning.Best wishes!Daniel Brown, MD, FACSBoard Certified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic SurgeonsMember, American Society of  Plastic SurgeonsCastle Connolly Top DocReal Self Top 500
