I have a bump/lump on the side of my nose, that an ENT doctor said is most likely a cartilage deformation. How common is this?I had noticed the lump on the right side of my nose last year, and so far doesn’t appear to be growing. However, it tends to itch and burn horribly. I tried squeezing it thinking it was acne, but it is not nor has it ever been inflamed. My question is, if it is a cartilage overgrowth, couldn’t it just be shaved off?
Answer: Rhinoplasty It appears your tip cartilages are formed differently. There’s no way of know what caused it. It’s up to you if you wanted something done to correct it realizing that it is a difficult and unpredictable job.

Answer: Rhinoplasty candidate Dear JonnJohns, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you would benefit from rhinoplasty. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Nasal bump If it has been evaluated and found to be just cartilage overgrowth over time then the cartilage can be excised under local anesthesia to improve the bulge like shape. Nose can change over time and cartilages can change as well. Regards Dr. J
