Is this lump on my nose a likely cartilage overgrowth? I was told it was and I’d need a total rhinoplasty to fix it. (photos)

I have a bump/lump on the side of my nose, that an ENT doctor said is most likely a cartilage deformation. How common is this?I had noticed the lump on the right side of my nose last year, and so far doesn’t appear to be growing. However, it tends to itch and burn horribly. I tried squeezing it thinking it was acne, but it is not nor has it ever been inflamed. My question is, if it is a cartilage overgrowth, couldn’t it just be shaved off?
