Have I affected my results by massaging a possible "swelling bump" where my hump was removed 9 days post op?

I had a hump removed by breaking the nose. 9d postop I removed the tape & there was a bump where the hump was removed. I read that massaging helps, so I pressed down/massaged the bump to get an idea of how it felt. 2 hrs later the area was red/darker than the other skin. I believe the bump looks the same. I didn't bleed or hear anything unusual while massaging. I don't believe there is any additional pain. Could I have affected my results? I have an appt in 5 days & my dr isn't in until then.

Since you had bony osteotomies done during surgery, a small bump in the early post op period is not uncommon. Massaging the bones that have not healed in place can potentially move the bones. You should only do that if so advised by your surgeon. I would advise making a follow up appointment and having your surgeon examine you in person.

I do not advise my patients to massage their nose shortly after surgery. They may impact the nasal bone healing since they still are not completely set at 9 days. Best to talk to your surgeon.
