Travelled far for dramatic result and very disappointed!! Is this normal lipo/bbl results? (photo)

Question

I had lipo/bbl and flew over 10 hours to go to a surgeon to get dramatic results. I was told I was too skinny and wouldn’t see dramatic results, but I expected a tiny waist at least! The pics are 5 days post op, so I know my butt will shrink more as the swelling goes down. I feel like I look basically the same and the concerns I had (not a smooth silhouette shape, dent in tops of buttocks) seem to still be present. Is this a normal result that I would have gotten from any surgeon??

You are still in the very early stages of the healing process. You are still very swollen and your results will change a lot between now and 3 months.  Once the swelling subsides  you will be able to see the final result of your surgery. Please be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.

Dear jho2323,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a BBL surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. At 5 days post op, it is too early to judge final results.  The buttock results immediately following surgery will be the largest due to swelling and lack of fat resorption.  The buttocks will continue to decrease in size for the first few weeks.   I have observed that between 4 and 6 weeks the buttocks tend to stabilize in volume.  If your waist was smaller at one time, the waist can likely be reduced to those same measurements or smaller provided the muscular and fascial integrity has remained the same.  Usually by 3 months, the swelling is minimal and totally resolved by 6 months.  Wait until then to make a final judgment.

It seams your doctor could have been more aggressive on the flank area, but you are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation is normal.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

At just 5 days post op you are still in the very early stages of the healing process. I would suggest that you communicate any current concerns you have with your plastic surgeon during your post op reviews but importantly you need to allow your body at least 3 months to recover and heal. This will allow time for the swelling to subside and everything to settle into the final position. Once your final result is visible and if you are still unsatisfied you could discuss this further with your plastic surgeon.All the best!

your results look typical for five days after having had liposuction. I suppose it may have been possible to graft more fat but not having been there I am not going to make judgments. I am puzzled that you wrote a five star review for your surgeon two months prior to having your procedure. When I look at her real self profile I know it is the majority of her close to 500 reviews are written well before her patients have had their procedures. I'm curious if you were enticed to write a positive review early in the process?  Some patients have the potential for having dramatic body transformations from liposuction and fat transfer others simply do not.  Did you not do any type of consultation it at least reviewing photographs before booking your surgery?  It's six weeks you will have a reasonably good idea of what your final results will be and you can expect results to be final by three months. Unless you are elderly and have a significant number of medical problems I don't see the indication for having had so many consultations with specialists before a routine elective procedure such as a BBL. In the United States most surgeons order far fewer lab tests and only get consultations from other specialists when there is a clear indication. We typically also do not give blood transfusions after cosmetic surgery unless someone had a complication. Any surgery that is  extensive to the point of needing blood transfusion it's too much and should be broken more than one separate procedures.  In my career I have never transfused a cosmetic surgery patient. While the results may not be as dramatic as you would hoped for be glad you did not end up disfigured like other patients who post sad outcome is on real self. Follow up with your plastic surgeon and share your concerns with her. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
