I had 8 veneers placed on my top set of teeth. I am not happy with the look of my veneers. I feel they are odd and bulky on the two front teeth. And I think my veneers overall are to short. My dentist shaved down a bit of the two front veneers to make them rounder and equal length, as one veneer was longer then the other in the beginning. What are your opinions on getting my veneers replaced and changes that need to be made? Thanks!
Answer: Do #veneers need to be redone ... #DrSarahThompson #STL I understand that you may be unhappy with something about your veneers, but we have no idea how your teeth looked prior to having your veneers placed. These photos could be a great improvement in your teeth or they could be worse than your original teeth. Experienced cosmetic dentists will not usually rip another dentist's work apart without knowing a lot about how your teeth looked previously. I would highly recommend going back to the dentist that did the work on your teeth and explaining to him/her what exactly you don't like about your veneers, then seeing if you guys can work something out to make you happy. Most dentists just want their patients to be happy. Good luck and I hope this info helps you. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MO Area (O'Fallon, IL)RealSelf100

Answer: Getting Veneers Replaced If you are unhappy with the results you should have them replaced, finances permitting. I would not expect the dentist to replace them for nothing.I strongly suggest anyone having cosmetic dentistry completed start with a diagnostic wax up and a provisional designed to match final restorations. This is like an architectural model so you can wear a form of the final restoration. The time to make changes is at this point in the process Ira L Shapira DDS, D,ABDSM, D,AAPM, FICCMOChair, Alliance of TMD OrganizationsThinkBetterLife.comnot after final retorations are complete.Cosmetic Dentistry is art. Shopping for the cheapest price will generally mean the dentist uses the cheapest labs.

Answer: New Veneers? Veneers can be a wonderful option for improving your smile and appearance! Everyone has their own vision for an ideal smile. That is a personal choice. I can tell you that the overall length of the front teeth is limited by how your lower teeth are positioned. If the veneer is too long for your bite the bottom teeth will hit too hard and potentially break the veneer, knock it off, or cause pain. There are ways to change your occlusion that would let you get a longer front tooth. From an aesthetic standpoint, with out checking your bite, the veneers do appear slightly square and opaque (although this could be the photograph)If you do elect to have them redone consider very carefully what your desires are and what you want changed. The provisional veneers that you wear while the permanent ones are made should be done with these goals in mind. That way you can "test drive" the bite before the lab makes the new veneers.

Answer: Should I have my veneers redone? How long have you had the veneers? If you are unhappy with them, you should have them redone. Is your dentist willing to work with you and redo them without charging you additional. He should want to have patients that are happy with the results from his cosmetic work that refer other patients. If you decide to have them redone, the first step should be communicating to the dentist what it is that you dislike about your current veneers and how you want you new veneers to look. The dentist should take impressions of your existing veneers and have his laboratory do a diagnostic wax up showing you how the new veneers will look. Once you are happy with the appearance of the wax-up, your old veneers can be removed and temporary veneers placed. The temporary veneers should be fabricated using a custom formed guide that allows the wax up of the veneers to be precisely copied on your teeth. This will give you a chance to decide if this is the look that you want your final veneers to provide. If you are pleased with the temporary veneers, the dentist can request that the lab copy the design from the wax up. Or he can take an impression of the temporaries in your mouth and ask the technician to copy the temporary veneers exactly. If you are not happy with the temporary veneers, have your dentist do modifications on the temporaries until you are satisfied. Then you can go through the above process to make sure that the technician creates your permanent veneers exactly as you want them to be. These steps should insure that you get the final result that you will be pleased with. This should make both you and your dentist happy. Good Luck!Dr. Gary Braunstein

Answer: Porcelain Veneers: Choose an experienced cosmetic dentist The final result created by porcelain veneers is a matter of personal preference. Predicting the final outcome can be facilitated by good communication between patient and doctor, and subsequently, between the doctor and his ceramist or dental laboratory. I advise patients to provide images of teeth they like, usually magazine clippings or something they came across online. Based on this, we work to get you the look you always dreamed of. Best of luck,James Asaf, DDS
