Tear trough implants: pros and cons?

Question

I had a lower bleph 4 yrs ago & now have a hollowed out look (despite my occuloplastic surgeon's VERY conservative excision of fat). I had a bad exp w Restylane in my tear troughs (lumps/discolouration) so I'm looking for another option. I have seen a few posts for tear trough implants on realself but they are all from the same Dr in Texas so I'm not sure how widely available this procedure is or what the long term results are. Do the implants cause discomfort, swelling, teary eyes, etc?

I don't recommend implants for the tear troughs. Keep in mind, a combination approach will give the most improvement. Fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP can improve under the eyes. My patients try to get non surgical treatments to avoid surgery. We use PRP and stem cells there often. I suggest consulting with an expert to develop a treatment plan best suited for your short and long term goals. Best, Dr. Emer

I do not recommend implants for the tear troughs. Filler is the right treatment for undereye volume loss. With proper experience and treatment technique, lumps and discoloration are uncommon with undereye filler treatment. I recommend you get a second opinion with another injector and that you reconsider trying filler again for the undereyes. Good luck.
