How long after chin liposuction do you have to wear the head and neck dressing?

I am having chin liposuction done in January and like most I have been researching like crazy. One thing I have noticed is after care directions for the head garment from Doctors! I read some say wear it for 3 days, some for 5, and others for 2 weeks!! Sadly, I have a job and I do not think I could get 2 weeks off! What do you guys feel is the appropriate amount of days to keep the compression garment on 24/7? Thanks! Heidy

Different surgeons will have different preferences for how long they want their patients to wear a compression garment after liposuction under the chin.  I would highly recommend following the instructions of your particular surgeon but I would also communicate your potential barriers to being able to follow the instructions fully.  For my patients, I normally have them wear the garment at all times (except when showering) for the first week.  For the second week, I have them just wear it when they are at home.

Hi and thanks for your question. I usually tell my patients to wear the chin strap for 1-2 days all the time after surgery and then follow with it only at night for a week or so. Every surgeon has their protocol therefore I would just discuss with your surgeon your concerns about time off and see what his expectations are.

In our practice, we do not use compression garments whatsoever, since they are Painful, tight, and claustrophobic. Instead, we place surgical drains underneath the skin of the neck that are left in place for two days to remove fluid/ blood out from underneath the skin.
