Does j plasma on abdomen work long term?

I was wondering why so few doctors seems to use j plasma in combination with liposuction. The ones that do appear to have great results. Do these results last long term?

Hello! I acquired the device a year ago and have seen wonderful long lasting results with my patients. This device is for select patients that are looking for tightening with out excess skin removal. As to why other practices do not offer it I am unsure. if done right , skin tightening internal heating can improve the results of liposuction and give more tightening long term.  However, we still aging, and as the aging process continues you will sag no matter what is done.  if there is loose skin that needs surgical removal it would need to be removed, but renuvion (j plasma) can help if you are a candidate.
You need a formal evaluation by an expert in body shaping and contouring to determine what is best.  Traditional liposuction awake and smart liposuction are old methods and do very poorly for tightening skin or significant skin tightening or contouring.  Small problem areas can be improved slightly by these methods.  The best in body contouring not only removes fat with energy devices like VASER ultrasound but also internally heat the skin with radio-frequency devices such as J PLASMA/RENUVION, InMode BodyTite, ThermiRF to heat the under surface of the skin and tighten it at the same time as fat removal. These combinations are called 4D HIDEF VASER contouring and can only be done by a well . trained body contouring specialist. At the same time fat should be harvested, PRP and stem cells added and injected into muscles or indentations/cellulite to get body shaping and contouring.  This is known as a Brazilian butt lift when you inject the fat to the buttock for contouring and lifting, but fat can also be used in areas such as the chest/breast, arms/shoulders, calves and face.  Cellulite should also be treated with cellfina, sculptra, subcision and/or fillers such as bellafill, renuva synthetic fat, or sculptra.  If skin is very loose before surgery then it will need to be removed such as lower abdominal skin (tummy tuck/abdominoplasty), breast skin (breast lift), arm skin (brachioplasty).  Overall you need a full assessment, but simple liposuction alone will not tighten skin and needs a combination of various methods -- fat removal, skin tightening, defining, fat grafting, skin removal -- to get the best in body contouring and body sculpting.  Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question. Renuvion (J-Plasma) is the latest subdermal skin tightening procedure. Can be used at the end of the liposuction procedure to create significant skin tightening. Renuvion (helium plasma and radiofrequency), does not take the place of skin excision. If a lot of loose skin is present, the patient will need a skin excision. If the looseness is "borderline" Renuvion can be used and the patient will avoid a long lower abdominal incision. It can also be done later, if the patient believes that he/she did not get skin tightening from the liposuction (I use the VASER, traditional lipo will not give a lot of skin tightening). It is relatively new technology used by plastic surgeons and it is expensive technology. This could explain partly why it is not widely used. I started using Renuvion since February, and I am very pleased with what I see so far. There are other technologies, like Bodytite (radiofrequency) and Thermitight (radiofrequency) but there are no controlled studies to compare these technologies at the present.Results depend on the surgeon's technical ability and settings used to deliver the energy both at the subdermal and fascial level. Results last at least 3-4 years, based on the initial time when this was introduced. Will not stop skin aging, but if you maintain your weight after the liposuction surgery, it should have long lasting results.

The answer to question is that we don't know. The device has only been marketed for cosmetic surgery for two years.  The reason most providers don't offer this is because the machine costs $100,000  There are two major devices on the market for radio frequency skin tightening in conjunction with liposuction. They are Renuvion( previously called J plasma) and theritight  Most likely the skin tightening is semi permanent.  In other words you will obtain nice skin tightening for at least 6 to 12 months and would most likely retain some of that long-term.  The device instantaneously shrinks tissues which gives some instantaneous result. This shrinkage probably is temporary but in doing so it also creates the formation of scar tissue which continues for months after the procedure. The scar tissue will contract with time and give a secondary skin tightening.  This part of the procedure is probably more long-lasting.  Liposuction by itself also creates scar tissue that will contract to some degree but adding the Renuvion seems to give one new layer of improvement. Personally I did buy Renuvion device and I'm still paying for it. Are use it on almost every patient who gets liposuction.  Time will tell if this device remains popular long-term. In the meantime it seems to have an advantage and I want the best results for my patients. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
