Can fat be injected to breasts through the armpit?

Question

I’m interested in fat transfer to the top and inner breast areas. I also scar easily and it takes a long time to fade, so I was wondering if it’s possible to inject the fat through the armpit folds to better hide the scar. I am average weight and BMI, fullest part of bust measures 34 inches, underbust is 29 inches. Thanks in advance!

Hi there thank you for your question. Yes fat can be injected through the anterior axillary fold (front part of the arm pit). This is a common location to access a port site to inject to the upper part of the breast. The inner breast area will likely still need a second small port site at the bottom of the breast or at the border of your areola. These scars heal very well and are not very noticeable.

In my experience, fat transfer to the breast is a nice option for enhancement.

A small puncture site, usually under the breast fold is hidden. Other options would be axilla/arm pit, which may still be noticeable.

An exam and consultation with a plastic surgeon who performs these procedures is recommended to confirm you are a candidate as well as discuss your options and expectations.

fat transfer breast augmentation is a viable alternative for women who desire larger breasts without the use of implants. Fat transfer is also widely used in reconstruction of the breast after a mastectomy or lumpectomy. It can also be very effective in correcting the size and shape of the breasts due to genetic problems such as tuberous breast or Poland Syndrome, two conditions that look like misshapen or underdeveloped breasts.
In addition, the following scenarios are also reason to consider breast fat grafting:
•	If you have chest areas that appear creased and sunken
•	If you desire more permanent correction than is provided by temporary fillers
•	If you wish to improve your body contour, revise scars, fill bodily depressions and rejuvenate the natural curve of your breasts
•	To fill in contour irregularities or hide obvious signs of breast implants
You should discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon and make sure your surgeon understands your concerns and your breast augmentation goals. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Fat can be grafted into the breast using only a needle stick incision.
I typically make the opening with an 18 gauge needle which leaves in approximately 1 mm opening.
I used a 2 mm grafting cannula.
I’ve never had a patient have a bad scar from breast fat grafting.
You’re much more likely to have visible scars from the Liposuction rather than the grafting aspect of the procedure.
 Grafting is very gentle on the skin and requires a very small opening only. In paragraph harvesting, the vet is much more aggressive and is more likely to leave visible scars.
Grafting fat, and only certain parts of the breast is not going to give you a good outcome.
In order to have a visible changed, the entire breast needs to be grafted.
Even when done correctly by highly experienced providers, the results are still very subtle.
Fat transfer is not a good procedure for changing the shape of the breast.
The best fat transfer is going to do is give you a slightly larger version of what you have.
If you want to change the shape of your breast, you need to look for other procedures like implant augmentation.
On top of this, finding a plastic surgeon who has exceptional skills in both Liposuction and fat transfer is also going to be challenging.
The truth is most plastic surgeons aren’t particularly good at Liposuction in my opinion.
I suggest you schedule multiple in person consultations.
Bring a pictures of your breast to use as a reference.
During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures of previous patients who had similar breast characteristics pad and paragraph recognized that early fat transfer results can look very impressive, but are not at all representative of final outcomes.
 Confirm when after pictures were taken when reviewing before and after photos.
In order for after pictures to be representative, they need to be taken a minimum of three months, but preferably six months or longer after the procedure.
This procedure may not be what you’re looking for.
