How many numbing injections should I expect to recieve?

Thank you for your question. Using topical anesthesia prior to the local needle injection can make a big difference. Patients that are very anxious and needle-phobic, I can prescribe oral medications that reduces the anxiety level as an additional measure for comfort.

The miraDry® system eliminates the underarm sweat glands, and the sweat glands don’t grow back after treatment. This results in a dramatic and lasting reduction of embarrassing underarm sweat. In a clinical study, patients experienced an average of 82% reduction in underarm sweat. You should notice a reduction in sweat immediately after a single miraDry® treatment. The
classic approach would require a few dozen injections. But as you can see from
the previous responses there are many ways to dramatically decrease the number
of injections and to help make those few injections that are truly necessary as
comfortable as possible.

The number of injections we use in our practice is less than 10 as we use tumescent anesthesia in conjunction with numbing of the skin. The procedure is very comfortable and we charge $1500 in the U.S. with > 86% of our patients needing only 1 treatment. Come and see us in Buffalo, NY. 

Ask your provider to consider a topical agent prior to the injections if you are very sensitive. My patients have said the injections do not hurt. The needle is very small. Additionally ask your provider to consider a tumescent technique for limited injections.

Our clinic starts with a gel of 23/7. This makes injections there after painless (yes, I must admit, I also am needle phobic, getting a blood test freaks me out, and I can not even look at a needle, yet I can Botox and fill all day)OK, back to your answer- the gel numbs the area, we then inject local either with a cannnula (this means only 2-3 injections) or a grid, this means a dozen or more. Regardless pain should only be 1-2 out of 10,if that. Most often its the psych behind getting needles, not the pain, and that is very easy to fix, we get patients one hour before miraDry, load them with valium or a sedative, place the gel, and calm them down. We have been performing miraDry® for two years and, in
general, we use topical anaesthesia prior to a technique of subdermal
infiltration. Generally, the procedure
is very well-tolerated, even in those with severe needle phobia. As I am a plastic surgeon who owns a
government-certified surgery centre, on occasion, for individuals with severe
needle anxiety, we will perform a very light sedation which additionally
improves your zero-pain experience.

The miraDry® is very successful. Most patients achieve a very high permanent
reduction after one to two treatments and our ability to control discomfort and
pain to what is almost a zero-pain procedure is quite successful. Between combinations of topical air chiller,
topical anaesthesia, under-the-skin anaesthesia through a single portal, using
specialized hypodermal wetting cannulas, we can make both the procedure and the
freezing leading up to it very comfortable.
