Irradiated Cadaver Rib Cartilage - I need a revision rhinoplasty to reconstruct the tip of my nose and dorsum.

There are many long term studies that support the use of irradiated rib cartilage for nasal reconstructive surgery. I have read these studies and still have some trepidation about using these grafts in revision rhinoplasty surgery  due to the need for good vascularity in the recipient nose and the potential compromise of this vascularity from scarring which may have occurred during your first surgery.  I would consult with a good rhinoplasty surgeon to discuss all of your options. You might post or send some photos. I've seen lots of cases where grafts weren't all that necessary.It's totally reasonable for you to decline to have cartilage harvested from your ribs or ears. Then the surgeon should tell you what he can do, and give you all of your options.

Irradiated rib cartilage or (IHCC)  is a very good alternative to using your own cartilage. There are some long term studies showing success with this product.

 In our practice, we prefer to use patient's car own cartilage harvested from the nasal septum. Only occasionally do have to use cartilage from the ear. Important to determine how much cartilage left on the inside of her nose for potential grafting purposes with a revision rhinoplasty.
