I have had my lips augmented many times using Belotero Balance . 2 days ago I used a different doctor and she used Belotero Volume . My top lip is so swollen and sore and I look like a duck I'm concerned even when the swelling goes down. Can someone tell me the difference between the two products and should I contact my injector or wait the 7 days ?

Answer: Belotero Balance vs. Belotero Volume Belotero Balance and Belotero Volume are both hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. Balance is a thinner filler with an HA concentration of 22.5 mg/mL and is used for more superficial areas, fine lines, or anywhere that you want a real soft change. It is commonly used in the tear trough area. It is rarely a filler that I choose for lips because it will not last long in the lips - maybe a few months. Because the concentration of HA is quite low, it will not last as long as a thicker filler; however, it is ideal for placing closer to the surface, because it is thinner, it will blend well with the tissue, feel smooth and not leave lumps like a thicker filler might. Belotero Volume is a thicker filler, with an HA concentration of 26 mg/mL that is used to replace volume loss. It is injected deeper, usually onto bone to give lift to areas such as cheeks or chin. It will last longer than Balance. Because it is a firmer filler, is it important not to place Volume in an area where you want a soft supple appearance. It is also rare that I use Volume for lips because of its firmness you will feel it in your lips. For patients wanting more volume and projection in their lips, they may wish to have Volume, but it is not the most natural filler choice for lips. Belotero makes another filler called Intense, which has an HA concentration of 25.5 mg/mL and is the ideal filler for lips, this is the filler which your injector should be using as their go-to for lips, unless you wanted a very minimal change, which won't last long (Balance) or whether you want a firmer lip with more projection (Volume). If you have concerns about your treatment you should always contact your injector immediately. Swelling to some extent is to be expected after filler injections; however, pain and excessive swelling can be a sign of a serious complication which would need to be addressed immediatley.

Answer: Belotero Balance and Volume Belotero Volume will give much more fullness than Belotero Balance. You will also have more swelling, especially if a needle was used rather than a cannula. You should see your doctor for assessment.
