Hello, I got a chemical peel and about 3 days later I started to pick at it and it became really irritated. I’m on day 4 now and have seen the skin where I picked at became so much worse! I am horrified. I am not sure how to fix this. Please help!!
Answer: Post Chemical Peel Chemical peels can be very itchy through the peeling process, so while I know it is tempting, please stop picking your face. You can help stop the itching and flaking by adding in a good cosmeceutical regimen containing hyaluronic acid and a good moisturizer. Your provider can make a good recommendation for you. The irritation caused from the picking should subside. I recommend scheduling a follow-up appointment with your provider who will check to ensure no scarring will result from the picking. In my practice we have over 45 lasers that we use in combination with other treatment modalities, such as chemical peels, to customize treatment plans for the unique needs of each of our patients.

Answer: Peel Aftercare As you've guessed, it's not good to pick at scabs while healing from a chemical peel. Hygiene and topical treatment according to your practitioner should be all that you do. It's possible that things worsened just as a part of the normal healing process. However, there are multiple lesions visible on your photos. It's important to be aware of the potential for flare up of herpes simplex virus, commonly known as cold sores. This can happen after any skin resurfacing such as laser or peels. This would require antiviral treatment. You should contact your practitioner to discuss this possibility.

Answer: Return to your Doctor It is best to always contact the doctor you had the treatment with and be honest with your aftercare. Most patients tend to pick and it can make the result delayed on healing. Contact your doctor for proper after care post picking from this treatment. The more honest you are the better they can treat your reaction.

Answer: Chemical Peel Thank you for your question and photographs. There's some irritation visible from the photographs, allow the areas to heal completely as the more you pick the more scarring you will have over time. You should use a micro roller with growth factors to help promote collagen and retexturize the skin to even out some of those areas that have unevenness. I also recommend to use Niacinamide, Rutin and Azelaic acid to help relieve the redness and calm the skin down. You should look into Laser toning to help even out the skin tone, lighten some of the darker pigments and brighten your skin tone. In order to improve these you will require multiple treatments and make sure to be careful as not to cause further pigmentation if using other laser options. I hope this helps.
