To what degree do I need to avoid sun exposure after a light chemical peel?

You can definitely enjoy the day trip. Chemical peels, no matter the depth, will cause some photosensitivity. It is important to protect your skin from UV by using a vitamin C-based antioxidant and a broad-spectrum physical sunscreen that contains both zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Wear a hat if you can. In my practice we have over 45 lasers that we use in combination with other treatment modalities, such as chemical peels and microneedling, to customize treatment plans for the unique needs of each of our patients.

Thank you for your message! Our office generally recommends about 1 week of no sun after a chemical peel, though this can vary a bit based off of the strength chosen. If you are still peeling and red, I would try to avoid the sun. You should likely be okay to proceed with mild sun exposure after 5 days however, as long as you are wearing and reapplying sunscreen. I would also wear a hat and sunglasses as well!

HI,You can definitely go on the day trip.  Just be sure to use SUNSCREEN of at lest SPF of 30, I prefer one that's mineral based (vs chemical sunscree).  Also, wear a hat to further protect your face.  Best,Dr. Huo
