How can I speed up my peeling and healing after a medium chemical peel? (Photo)

Question

I took medium level of chemical peel on my face yesterday it seems reddish black. I have to go on work Monday. I want to speed up peeling and healing I can't go with this, I've only today and Sunday to peel and heal - please suggest, it's urgent.

Thanks for your question and photos. Unfortunately, there is no magic wand that will speed up the healing and peeling process after a chemical peel. I recommend you follow the instructions you received on gently cleansing your skin and keeping it hydrated as it recovers from the treatment. Picking or forcing the skin off the face may cause more trauma and prolong healing. Protection is paramount as the skin is particularly prone to damage during recovery. While I understand your need to return to work, you need to care for your skin correctly to ensure an optimal outcome from your treatment. The good news is that your results should last for many months once the healing process is completed. I wish you all the best!

Thank you for your question. After a medium peel, your skin will likely turn red and will be highly sensitive. It can take up to six weeks for your skin to stop being red and uncomfortable. The process can be repeated every six months to one year in order for your skin to have that youthful glow. Please check in with your board certified facial plastic surgeon to see your progress.

Hi Dear Monimalik, Hastening up the exfoliation or the peeling phase may contribute to untoward effects post chemical peel. Let it peel by its own and being patient is the only safe option as of now. Use a good moisturiser to mask the flaky skin. Using sunscreens regularly will help. Avoid make ups till your skin is completely fine without peeling. Hope this will help you.

Thank you for your question. It is important to wash your face with cool water and a mild cleansing agent. Be sure to moisturize and keep the skin hydrated at all times. Although very rewarding, chemical peels can temporarily compromise your skin's protective barrier so it is important to reinforce that barrier with a medium to thick moisturizer to prevent cracking and speed the healing. Some companies offer a medical barrier cream for post procedures and that will help  you reach your end goal at a faster pace. Best of luck!

Hi, thanks for sharing your photos. There is no safe way to speed up this healing
process. You need to let the skin peel naturally as hastening this process by exfoliating,picking etc may result in scarring and/or hyperpigmentation. Your treating therapistshould provide a healing timeline estimate. All the best, Dr Campey
