Is psoriasis a contraindication for eyelid surgery? I had rhinoplasty years ago, but am only now getting peeling where the cut was, so now I'm hesitant on surgery due to incisions peeling.
Answer: Not a total contraindication Psoriasis is a skin condition characterized by red, scaly patches that can occur anywhere on the body, including the eyelids. While having psoriasis is not an absolute contraindication for eyelid surgery, it does present certain considerations and potential challenges. Before undergoing eyelid surgery, it's crucial to discuss your history of psoriasis with your surgeon. They will assess the severity of your psoriasis, its current status, and whether it is actively flaring or well-controlled. These factors will influence the decision on whether to proceed with the surgery. Ultimately, the decision to proceed with eyelid surgery should be made in collaboration with your surgeon, taking into consideration the status of your psoriasis, the potential impact on the surgical outcome, and any necessary precautions or adjustments to the surgical plan. Your surgeon's expertise and experience will play a significant role in managing the procedure to achieve the best possible results while minimizing the risk of complications related to psoriasis.

Answer: Suggest seeing a dermatologist In this case where you have issues after a prior surgery, I would suggest that you see a dermatologist for their opinion to see if they feel it is safe to proceed. As a surgeon, I would likely be very hesitant to agree to do surgery otherwise. In addition, they may be able to optimize the management of your psoriasis to improve your existing problem.

Answer: Need to come in to consult For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Eyelid Surgery Hello! Thank you for your question. The psoriasis is not usually an obstacle for the eyelid surgeries but It would be healthier to evaluate with a face-to-face consultation. If you can provide photos from front of your face, from the side of your face and 1 meter away I would be able to make a proper evaluation.Best Regards!
