Bruising after Belkyra (Kybella), is this normal?

I had my first Belkyra treatment yesterday, consisting of three vials. I immediately swelled up, but after all my reading on the topic that's what exactly what I expected. However, after taking off my carefully planned turtleneck tonight, I noticed that I have quite a bit of blue bruising that has gravitated down between my clavicle and onto my sternum. Is this normal? I do not have noticeable bruising on the injection site, only directly below on my chest. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your question!  Yes, it is certainly possible to have some bruising and some swelling after Kybella injection.  The bruising should be temporary, although the swelling under the chin can last some time longer.  Typically, we will not see bruising, which extends to the clavicles.  If this worsens, I would contact your injector.  I hope that this helps!-David Gilpin

Thank you for your question. There are a few side effects to the treatment, but redness, bruising and minor swelling can be expected. It is vital, however, that patients choose a provider who is well trained and experienced, to avoid more serious complications. Always work with a board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Yes, it is certainly possible to bruise after these kinds of treatments.  As a matter of fact, anytime a needle is used, it is safe to assume to bruising is a possibility.  There are ways to expedite the resolution of bruising such as the use of a laser soon after you see it and of course bruising is always temporary.  Best of luck!

Thank you for sharing your question.  Bruising after Kybella is not uncommon and tends to be mild in severity.  You can help clear the bruising with cold compresses, arnica montana/bromelain supplementation, and eating dark leafy green vegetables.  Hope this helps.

Yes. Some patients experience post treatment bruising following a Kybella injection. It will resolve with time. Taking arnica may speed up the process if you want to give that a try.

Kybella is a great injection to permanently reduce the fat under the chin. Swelling, redness, nodules, and bruising call all happen after Kybella injections. thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical injectable treatment for the double
chin. Bruising is possible with any injection and the bruise can extend farther from the site of injection. We treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day to make them resolve faster. Untreated bruises typically resolve by 1-2 weeks. Please

Thanks for the question. Bruising is not that uncommon given you are having injections in the soft tissues, but I have not come across bruising extending anteriorly into the clavicles and sternum. Being on a blood thinner may make this more possible. The bruising that has descended to your upper chest is due to gravity. I would let your practitioner know of this.

Although bruising is not the norm, anytime a needle is used to inject any substance under the skin there is a chance for bruising. On the neck these bruises almost always appear just above the clavicle just as yours have. No worries. It will resolve soon.
