Upper lip groove, philtrum: is there a way to create a deeper groove known as a visible philtrum? (Photos)

Hello Docs, this might be an unusual question or request. But I'm curious is there a way to improve or create a deeper and more pronounced philtrum on the upper lip? Some people have little to no philtrum groove from their nose to their lips, which makes the upperlip look completely flat and in my opinion unattractive. I was wondering if there is a way to create deeper groove aka a nice visible philtrum? I attached pictures of some folks who have a very nice well defined philtrum. Thank you

While injectable fillers can create a temporary philtral augmentation effect, a permanent method is to place either dermal grafts or small lip implants into the philtral columns.

The philtrum can be accentuated for a more youthful look and to also improve the appearance of the upper lip. Hyaluronic-acid based fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane work great here. Most importantly when treating such a delicate area, make sure to have a highly trained and experienced cosmetic physician injector such as a dermatologist treating you to optimize results and safety.

Hi. Creating a philtrum column with lip filler is a common practice on patients who need more definition. Typically we will use one syringe of Vollure which is a Hyaluronic Acid based filler that provides smooth, full volume to enhance the lip and define the column.
