Yes, skinny patients are the best candidates for breast augmentation via fat transfer. At MBC, we use the “palm measure” to estimate the area and the amount of fat to harvest. Using this method, out of a “palm measure” (the average size of male surgeon’s palm) a thin layer of fat can be harvested out of a large surface area, such as a thigh. Even in thin and petite women, we have easily obtain 200-300 mL out of one portion of the thigh. We recommend patients not to gain weight prior to the procedure, since it is preferable to harvest and transfer smaller fat cells. These smaller fat cells are consistent in size and result in a long lasting breast augmentation. The volume of fat cells does not increase with weight gain, the fat calls become larger oil bags. In a thinner patient, there are more fat cells in the same amount of fat than a heavier woman, resulting in a more stable breast augmentation.
