I'd like a second opinion: How would you treat a reaction to stitches and have you see this reaction before? (Photos)

Question

I am 3 weeks post breast lift, and believe I am having a reaction to the stitches. At 2 weeks, my incisions started filling up with fluid and redness around the incision. In some spots it feels like there is space/void. I am on antibiotics and antihistamines and my PS nurse trimmed some splitting surges. Will this resolve with time or will I need to intervene sooner and remove some stitches under this fluid? I am meeting with my surgeon regularly, I am just wondering what others have seen.

I think you are treating it appropriately- and it's really not that uncommon- the only other thing I would add if you were my patient would be a short course of oral steroids called a Medrol dosepak.

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

What is going on with you is so common that I actually inform   patients about it ahead of time. Very common for  some redness and drainage of  yellow fluid. I think it occurs because of some melting fat which wants to drain out. A few spitting stitches also not uncommon. Overall your result looks great and these things will take care of themselves with time. Seen it over and over again.

This stitch reaction does occur and usually settles as the stitches dissolve or work themselves out of you skin.

Sorry for your problem but spitting stitches occurs all too commonly and does require follow up with your surgeon but should resolve over tome.
