Stomach hard after lipo. Is this normal?

Yes, it can be very normal to have some significant swelling in the first few weeks after liposuction.  It can take several days for the swelling to maximize and then start to slowly improve.  This is why we tend not to take postop photos until at least 3 months (if not 6 months) have passed to allow for more complete recovery.  Continue the compression garment.  Your surgeon might even advise some gentle massage to any especially firm or irregular areas.

What you’re experiencing is swelling, which is completely normal for the first several months following your liposuction procedure. You should see the majority of swelling subside over the next several weeks with near complete resolution at six to nine months.

Your recovery is typical. It usually takes about 2 weeks to return to a happy place regarding your initial findings at day 3. Avoid salt, stay hydrated, wear your garment all the time. 

Swelling and firmness are normal after lipo.  Most plastic surgeons have a program to help with this, and some very simple things can make a big difference.  A properly fitted garment, lymphatic massage, avoidance of prolonged sitting and a lower sodium diet can all go a long way to speed you recovery and reduce swelling. Check with your doctor for sure.

Yes, there can be firmness and or swelling which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. Dear lovenoel, it is normal to have swelling after liposuction. It can last for months until it subsides. I would suggest you to follow your surgeon's instructions and to be patient. 

What you are experiencing is absolutely normal following liposuction. You will get increased swelling, areas of lumpiness and hardness. Typically, it can 3 - 6 months for most of this to resolve and up to a full year for maximal resolution. You should follow the regimen that your surgeon gave you - and if this wasn't provided or understood - ask again. Otherwise, at this point, just be patient.Steven Turkeltaub, MD

What you are experiencing is completely normal. Swelling after liposction is pretty significant for the first 2 weeks then gradualy  dimishes over the first 2 months. The tighness of the compression garment basically prevents much swelling iniitally but once you take it off you tend to swell pretty fast. I prefer my patients  wear it as much as possible the first 2 weeks. Most feel better wearing it during the day for the first 4-6 weeks. Many patients also notice a firmer abdomen after the selling is gone. This is becuse the fat ( padding ) has been removed and you are better able to feel your abdominal wall wich is firm feeling.

There is a lot of swelling after liposuction.  It is a very traumatic procedure and will take months for all the swelling to subside.  Please follow your surgeon's post operative instructions carefully to obtain the best possible results.Good Luck!

Thank you for your question. It is common to have swelling and some lumpiness after lipo. It will continue to get better with time. May take up to 4-6 months. Meanwhile follow instructions and ask your PS for massage or venus legacy radio frequency treatment which can help.
