How long do I wait before getting lipo revision done? I'm 6 months post op.

Question

I got liposuction done to my legs, tummy and hips in Dec 2016. It's been 6 months and I have healed well except few areas still feel numb and bumpy. My doc has definitely not done a great job since I see a lot of bumps on my tummy and thighs. When I stumbled upon this site, I saw that my doc was rated very poorly by other patients as well. Now I would like to get this done right and would like to know what would be the recommended wait time between surgeries. Please suggest.

Dear Sue, I am sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your results. If you want to post photos I would be happy to comment. With that being said some times touch ups are necessary and if you have complete confidence in your surgeon (assuming it's a BC PS) then I would revisit the issue with your doctor. If it wasn't, I would go ahead and get an opinion from a BCPS since you've waited 6 months. Most often I recommend waiting to re-do or touch up any surgery 6-12 months. Best of Luck.

I am sorry you are not happy with your results. I would recommend waiting a minimum of 6 months prior to revision for contour problem and a minimum of 1 year if you are still waiting for skin to fully retract. You absolutely need to find a board certified plastic surgeon you are comfortable with and who can explain exactly what the potential risks and complications are during the revision as these are more difficult than the original procedure. 6-months is a good time to have yourself evaluated for a possible revision. its unlikely things will change much after 6 months. if there is some scarring along with defects that scarring can worsen with time. I specialize in fixing liposuction defects. and I prefer not to proceed with corrective surgeries until its past 6 months.

Surgeons and patients both have high expeditions for the best possible outcomes. This is what drives us towards excellence. Revisions may be needed to achieve these goals. Typically, I encourage patients to allow some time to allow things to completely settle before undertaking revisions. Depending on the surgery this ranges from 3-12 months. For liposuction, 6-12 months is a reasonable expectation.
