13 months post-op. Explant with anchor lift and "partial" capsulectomy. I had some complications - became a wound care patient (right breast) for a month - but healed up completely within a month. The issue is that left breast is still almost completely numb (nipple completely) and right is somewhat numb. Also, it's like I have completely different breasts. Scar tissue has made them extremely dense and I must have a yearly sonogram in addition to my mamogram. Is this normal?
Answer: Numbness I'm sorry that you've had so many issues after surgery. You may still regain a small amount of feeling, but it is unlikely that you'l notice dramatic changes in sensation. The scar tissue will soften over time, but will likely be permanent. Continue to follow your doctor's advice for mammograms and ultrasound screenings.

Answer: Probably won't change much Dear Msbossyboots: At 13 months your sensation is not likely to return and the scar tissue is not likely to soften significantly. Of course we would need an exam to know for sure but more than likely some of your breast asymmetry could be improved with fat grafting. Best of luck to you!G. Robert Meger MD

Answer: Numbness and Scar Tissue Thanks for your question. At about one year, it's unlikely that you'll see significant changes. It's possible that scar tissue will soften some, but in my experience numbness at 13 months is likely permanent. As always, an examination from a fully trained plastic surgeon is advised. Best of luck to you.

Answer: 13 months post-op, left breast is still almost completely numb and right is somewhat numb. Will I ever gain back feeling? I'm sorry to hear about your problems. The issues you had are known (but not common) risks associated with the surgery. We discuss this thoroughly with our patients preoperatively and it is included in writing in the operative permit they are required to read and sign so there are no surprises. Hopefully this was explained in detail to you preoperatively. The issues you have will probably not change much now that you are over a year postop.
