How can I get rhinoplasty for free or low cost?

HI Viv,Many residency training programs at university hospitals will perform rhinoplasty for low cost.  Make sure that the hospital has trained, board certified professors or rhinoplasty surgeons supervising the resident at the time of surgery.  Otherwise it is best to wait until you can afford the cost of rhinoplasty without having cost be the determining factor.  It is alot more expensive to have revsion rhinoplasty.  Good luck and be well.Dr. P

Most qualified surgeons will not perform rhinoplasty for free. However, many residency teaching programs have availability to have rhinoplasty performed by the residents or fellows at a significant discount. Otherwise, you can always finance your procedure if you can get a co signer for the account.

A “witch nose” May have an appearance with a pointy and droopy nasal tip along with a profile bump. You may also have thin nasal skin.  Rhinoplasty surgery for tip rotation and repair of such a nasal appearance is difficult.  In that regard, the expertise of your surgeon would be imperative for achieving a desired result.  I would suggest you save your funds for rhinoplasty surgery if this is something that is very important in your life.  A bargain rhinoplasty with a lackluster result may lead to a worse situation than you have now.  While you are saving, you can start to research rhinoplasty specialists near you.  You may consider carecredit for interest free financing,  or asking a family member for a loan.  We may offer discounts in our practice based on patients’ social and financial situations,  so it doesn’t hurt to ask, if you find a specialist you are comfortable with.  Hope this is helpful. Rhinoplasty prices vary greatly
because the rhinoplasty procedure itself encompasses a wide range of
techniques that can be performed to different extents.Therefore the cost
range is pretty wide from $6000-$12,000. My recommendation is to first
find qualified surgeons   that are board certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery or the American Board of Otolaryngology. Find one or
two surgeons you trust, then compare prices between them. Factors that
influence the price include:
1. Location - Will it be performed in a hospital with an overnight
stay, an independent out- patient facility or a doctors office?
2. Type of Anesthesia -  IV sedation or General Anesthesia? Will a
board certified anesthesiologist or a nurse anesthetist be used, or an
RN?
    
 
3. Experience and training of your surgeon. The best
trained (and longest) would be a surgeon board  certified by the
American Board of Plastic Surgery, but also consider American Board of
Otolaryngology trained surgeons
    
 4. Length and Complexity of
Surgery - Tip Rhinoplasty only or complete rhinoplasty, open or closed
technique, deviated septum repair,or breathing problems corrected, , how
long, ?etc

I would advise against finding the cheapest plastic surgeon for your rhinoplasty.  If you don't have enough to pay for quality the first time, how will you be able to afford a possible revision?  Some plastic surgery training programs have a residents clinic where the residents schedule the cases at a very reduced rate and then the attending surgeon does or helps the resident do the case as part of the residents training.

 It is doubtful if you can get a free rhinoplasty, since this elective cosmetic surgery. Best to check with your local University Medical Center to see if they give a discount on that procedure at a  Teaching hospital. Rhinoplasty is a very difficult endeavor, so make sure the attending surgeon is well-versed in teaching rhinoplasty.It is important to ask  whether or not you're going to get open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty.  Follow-up appointments are just as important as actual surgery itself. Pretty much the same way you can get a car for free or a low cost. Find someone willing to do it. But you will ALWAYS get what you pay for. Best to start a savings plan if it is that important to you.

Cosmetic surgery is a luxury that unfortunately doesn't come at a bargain basement price. That'd be like someone saying, "I want a Maserati, but I can't pay for it." But in all seriousness, sometimes you CAN find a surgeon who will do a rhinoplasty to correct a traumatic nasal deformity and bill your insurance company instead of charging you directly. This scenario occurs most often when there is firm evidence of a deforming nasal fracture and/or chronic nasal airway obstruction caused by the trauma. Or you can alternatively seek out a Resident Clinic like we have at our Johns Hopkins affiliated hospital. (Trainee surgeons perform the surgery while plastic surgeons supervise. Patients can get very good results, but have to be comfortable with a student surgeon doing the work.) Another thought is to take a loan from your parents or to use a commercially available firm like Care Credit to help spread out the payments. In any event, you must understand that even in the very best of hands, the accepted revision rate for primary rhinoplasty is about 10-15%, meaning that about 10-15 people out of every 100 rhinoplasty patients are really unhappy with their results and get a second corrective rhinoplasty. It is the most challenging of ALL plastic surgery procedures. So you really dont want someone to botch your rhinoplasty.  My best advice is to start saving!  Nothing of value comes without a cost. Get a part time job or get a second job if you already have one. Seek out the best local nose surgeon you can and have a consultation. Maybe they run a special discount at certain times of the year? And don't forget the old adage, "You get what you pay for".
