I’ve had the spot since birth and its about the size of a dime. Have never tried anything to get rid of it, but it is very annoying because I can’t get a short haircut. Because of it’s location it is hard to hide, and makes me insecure.
Answer: Patient with lifelong area of hair loss on side of head...! ATLANTA, GEORGIA, USA Dear yungman, Thank you for writing in with this question. It seems like you have a form of alopecia (could be triangular alopecia; could be congenital absence of hair follicles) and an in-person consultation with a hair restoration specialist is indicated. I think dermoscopy would help to confirm the diagnosis. A hair transplant procedure will likely be indicated to place growing hairs into this area of hair loss. I hope this information is helpful to you. Kind Regards, Ken Anderson, MD, FISRHS

Answer: Bald spot on scalp? Englewood Cliffs New Jersey In my opinion, most likely you have a congenital absence of hair follicles in the bald area. A dermoscopy as well as a biopsy can give additional information. Without follicles, a hair transplant is the best approach.

Answer: Triangular alopecia Your diagnosis is likely triangular alopecia. A hair transplant and/or scalp micro pigmentation (SMP) are the only good options. Medical (non-surgical) options are not very effective in this particular case.

Answer: Spot on scalp devoid of hair Given that you have had this dime sized spot on your scalp since birth chances are favorable that it could accept and grow hair. It would be best to see a hair transplant physician to discuss the possibility of a hair transplant into the spot.

Answer: Small bald spot IF this small bald spot has been present since birth, then yes, it can grow hair using a hair transplant. If it is recent, I would worry about other diagnosis such as alopecia areata which will not grow hair unless treated
