I had 50 units of Botox injected into my right masseter muscle about 2 weeks ago. Since then I've definitely noticed that the muscle is weaker, but way too much. My face seems swollen still and when I smile it looks as though I've had a stroke. I'm also experiencing a warm tingling feeling from my ear to my mouth. At this point I'm wishing I never had it done. Will it go away? How long will it take?

Answer: Botox masseter injection This is definitely not normal but will go away. It appears that your facial muscles on the right side are weak but functioning. This suggests that this effect might wear off in the next 1-2 months. Masseter injections that are too heavy handed or placed beyond the masseter into other facial muscles can cause this type of issue. I have successfully treated a handful of people who had this issue with previous injectors and it has never recurred. The product always works and treatment complications are usually injector related. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Unilateral Masseter Muscle Injection with Botox I agree with Dr. Weiner. I am not sure what the rational is for a unilateral masseter injection. The masseter is a very strong set of muscles that control your ability to close your jaw. Injecting only one side leads to dominance of the contralateral side and subsequent effects on your bite. Likewise, if your smile has been altered, some of the muscles of facial animation may have been affected. This requires further evaluation by a Physician experienced in use of Botox in the lwoer face
