I had 50 units of Botox injected into my right masseter muscle about 2 weeks ago. Since then I've definitely noticed that the muscle is weaker, but way too much. My face seems swollen still and when I smile it looks as though I've had a stroke. I'm also experiencing a warm tingling feeling from my ear to my mouth. At this point I'm wishing I never had it done. Will it go away? How long will it take?
Answer: Botox to masseter The dose is a bit on the high side - usually we start with 25U per side. You have some spillage of the botox to the adjacent smile muscles. It will take about 2-3mo to get the smile mainly back to normal and about 6mo -9mo to get the masseter to grow back.

Answer: Injection of masseter muscles with Botox If you're having problems after your injections I would discuss this with your injector. Injection of the masseter muscles can be associated with a number of side effects. It is not clear whether your left masseter muscle was injected or not. It is also possible to affect other facial muscles inadvertently when the masseter is injected. The effects of Botox clearly will wear off but I would get an opinion from an expert injector who has a great deal of experience treating masseter muscles with neuromodulators.

Answer: 50u of Botox in right masseter. Thank you for your question. Typically patients have the masseter muscle injected bilaterally. It does appear as though you are experiencing some asymmetry. It will take approx. 3 months for the Botox to wear away, at that time your jawline and mouth should return to its original shape. It may be worth while to schedule a consultation with an expert injector to be assessed for your other symptoms. Best,

Answer: Botox masseter injection This is definitely not normal but will go away. It appears that your facial muscles on the right side are weak but functioning. This suggests that this effect might wear off in the next 1-2 months. Masseter injections that are too heavy handed or placed beyond the masseter into other facial muscles can cause this type of issue. I have successfully treated a handful of people who had this issue with previous injectors and it has never recurred. The product always works and treatment complications are usually injector related. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Unilateral Masseter Muscle Injection with Botox I agree with Dr. Weiner. I am not sure what the rational is for a unilateral masseter injection. The masseter is a very strong set of muscles that control your ability to close your jaw. Injecting only one side leads to dominance of the contralateral side and subsequent effects on your bite. Likewise, if your smile has been altered, some of the muscles of facial animation may have been affected. This requires further evaluation by a Physician experienced in use of Botox in the lwoer face
