I was given lower abdomen liposuction with my street clothes left on at a stem cell clinic. Isn't that unsafe?

Hi, Thank you for your post. Ideally liposuction should be done by a board certified plastic surgeon. I would recommend filing a complaint to the medical and nursing boards. Liposuction just like any other cosmetic procedure should be taken seriously. Hopefully you heal with no problems.

When considering plastic surgery you definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety.  A key quality indicator is Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.

Good morning. Please see the link below by one of my colleagues to report such an experience. I venture to say that your care was NOT undertaken by a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or a clinic overseen by one because your description of care goes against what we stand for in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Collectively, we pride ourselves on a certain level of standard care and the fact that you had a procedure done WITHOUT sterile technique, surgeon oversight, and pre or post-op care is not appropriate. Please report. 

Please monitor your access sites for lipo for signs of infection and seek a second opinion by a board certified plastic surgeon should any concerns arise.

Thank you for your question.Your description indicates a process that is well below the standards required of board certified plastic surgeons. Standards are created to give the patient the best chance of a good, safe outcome.I hope your recovery goes well and without complications. 

Ideally, liposuction procedures
are being done by board certified plastic surgeons.  There are other
doctors who have received training and may also be capable of performing the
procedures but this is less standardized.  Be sure and check the credentials
of your surgeon.   Liposuction is indeed a surgical procedure and the
areas treated must be prepped with a cleaning solution.  It is possible to
do this while not being completed void of street apparel depending on the areas
to be treated.  However, we find it easier to use a gown and or garment to
ensure we can prep the areas thoroughly.
 

You need to call the Department of Health in your state and report that type of practice. If you are uncomfortable with a situation where you are about to have an invasive procedure, get out of that situation as fast as possible. Your health and your life could be at risk. Ask the right questions about board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, state accreditation of the surgical facility, and who is doing the anesthesia. Liposuction is a wonderful procedure when done by the right hands, and can be potentially fatal if critical mistakes are made by the wrong person.

Surgery in the state of Florida can only be preformed by licensed MD/DO. Best to call the DOH and file a compliant. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that is to be taken seriously. 

Clearly your procedure was not done by a board-certified plastic surgeon.
In the future I recommend seeking out experience board-certified plastic surgeon's in order to avoid having potentially deadly complications.
Would you describe is very far from the standard of care provided by board-certified plastic surgeon is.
It borders on medicine which could lead to a doctor losing his or her medical license.
I can't stress enough the importance of choosing doctors who are properly trained in these procedures.
Personally I would rarely if ever perform liposuction of the lower abdomen only since this will almost inevitably lead to an abnormal fat distribution.

Based on your description, this is extremely dangerous.  This must be reported to an appropriate agency to prevent potential future patients from serious to life threatening complications.
