Cold or warm compress 48 hours after Restylane under eye injections?

Question

I received Restylane injections for the first time on Wednesday at 9am. I woke up on Thursday with a completely swollen face and eyes. I iced my face the entire day and look close to normal, however, I still have swelling. Is it best that I use cold or warm compress? I've done some research and found conflicting answers.

I recommend cold compresses and icing after tear trough injections. It can take up to 2 weeks for final results. Hope this helps.

You have swelling, which can last 1-2 weeks after injections. I also recommend using an LED LightStim to decrease bruising. If more significant bruising is present I recommend using a vascular laser or IPL treatment to help reduce the bruising more quickly. Arnik with bromelain pills (arnika forte) can also be taken to help speed up the healing. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time.

We normally use ice packs for 48 hours post-dermal filler injections.  Also, consider taking Benadryl as this may decrease the swelling after injections.

I would recommend using a cold compress several times a day to subdue any swelling around your face and eyes.  I may also recommend using an antihistamine like Claritin, Benadryl or Zyrtec for several days as well depending on how bad the swelling is. Best of luck in your recovery.

Apply cold compresses to the treated area for 5 – 10 minutes every hour to help decrease the swelling. Be sure to follow up with your injector regarding any concerns. Happy Healing!

Restylane is the ideal product for the under eye area. Belotero works if it is a small area to be filled. It is always better to use cold compresses after any injections, especially the eye area.  Warm compresses contribute to swelling.  Please consult an expert in under eye injections for the best cosmetic results.  Best, Dr. Green

Cold. Warm will dilate vessels and cold willl constrict vessels.  There is also a possibility from your description that you have developed an allergy to the hyaluronic acid....in which case hyaluronidase may be indicated, plus bendadryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride.)
