I have always been bothered by my profile. I am now noticing that I can see my recessed chin & double chin from the front as well. I had braces to correct an overbite as a teenager but still have minor TMJ/jaw issues. I'd rather not get an invasive jaw surgery. I like the shape of my chin when I smile and I like my heart shaped face. I think that a chin implant would help my appearance but would adding liposuction give me a more desirable result and enhanced jaw definition?

Answer: Best option for weak jaw/recessive chin? You have both nonsurgical and surgical options: If you want to see how added chin projection can help your profile a good nonsurgical alternative is Voluma, a dermal filler used to build up bony prominences like the cheeks but can also be used to excellent effect in the chin. In fact, many patient who come in to discuss chin implants (which require surgery) will opt first for a Voluma chin augmentation just to see if they like the look. The product is very safe and lasts 2 years or more. You could always proceed to the permanent option (the implant) in the future, or just continue the filler. I would recommend combining this with refinement of your neckline by eliminating submental fat (the "double chin"), either by liposuction (which is technically a surgery, though minimally-invasive) or with Kybella, an injectable that can achieve similar results in appropriate patients without surgery. See the video below. I have a Youtube video demonstrating Voluma injections as well, which can be easily found by searching on my name. These nonsurgical procedures can be performed at the same time, during the same visit, if you wish. Answer: 29-year-old female. Best option for weak jaw/recessive chin? From the side profile photographs, there appears to be a weak and recessive chin profile for which a chin implant can improve. Chin implants are manufactured in a large variety of sizes and shapes which is best determined at the time of the consultation and examination. Chin implants are composed of solid silicone, and are usually placed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Liposuction can accomplish removal of the fatty deposits in the neck which is complementary to the chin implant to improve the chin and jawline. For more information and many before and after examples of this combination, please see the link and the video below
