Symmastia Repair, Sports Bra Suggestions or Should I Wear a Thong Bra? (photo)

Question

I had symmastia repair in Jan '12 to replace 15-year old 425 mods. I changed to 550 mod+ implants filled to 625; however, they were really hard due to my lack of natural tissue. In May '12, I had surgery to change to 550 high profile silicone implants that feel much more natural. I love to work out and fear that a regular sports bra pushes them too close together. I love to run and zumba. Should I wear a thong bra when working out. I have perm sutures, but never had a thong bra during healing.

Congratulations!  Your breasts look great.  I think at 12 weeks you are probably well healed, but I would suggest touching base with your surgeon first.

It looks like your surgeon did an excellent job and should be commended. I agree with the previous posts and would add that you should also avoid lying on your chest on a firm surface at this time. Discuss the thong bra with your surgeon.

The high profile implant has a narrow base diameter an is a good choice when symmastia has occured after an augmentation. The durability of the repair depends on the suturing and the give in the skin envelope which must conform to the implant. The thong bra is a good choice, however a soft cup which places support over the center of the chest and breast fold with a stretch cup can work as well and give you some 'cover'.

Thank you for the question and pictures.  Congratulations on your  successful repair of the breast implant malposition problem. I would suggest that you continue to be very careful about strenuous exercise;  for example any movement  such as arm abduction that can put stress on pectoralis major muscle  attachment to the sternal area.  Such exercise may include the chest “flies”.  Although the use of a specific bra probably will not make much difference at this point, I would suggest the use of a thong  bra  during strenuous exercise, for support and to remind you to continue to “take it easy”.

The thong bra ,also known as the symmastia  bra is ideally worn immediately after surgery

	It is still preferable to wear a thong bra rather than a bra that tends to push the breasts together

You have an excellent result.  After about 12 weeks the results should be stable and you should be able to wear anything you want and do anything you want without fear of recurrence.
