Thank you for your question. The out fracture of the inferior turbinates does not have any impact on the external appearance of the nose. The front of the inferior turbinate reaches as far as the edge of the nasal bones and remains within the nasal cavity. As a result, even at the area where the nasal bones finish, you would not expect any external appearance changes from adjustments to the inferior turbinates. This procedure is effectively a functional step of the treatment rather than a cosmetic one.
Thank you for your question - it is a logical one ! During Rhinoplasty, it is usually necessary to address the inferior Turbinates either by out-fracturing them or shrinking them sub-mucosally with bovee-electrocautery, so that they take up less space in the nasal passages and thus allow a patient to breathe better. The out fracture process does not affect the appearance of the nose externally because the turbinates are on the inside of the nasal bones. So the nose will not look wider by out-fracturing the turbinates. Make sure to have your Rhinoplasty done by a Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon who is well trained both n the aesthetics of the nose and also the function of the nose. Feel free to look at the Rhinoplasties on our website - nearly all of them have had their trubninates out fractured and none show widening. I hope this answered your question :-)Best of luck in your quest, Sincerely, Dr. Anna Petropoulos Board Certified Facial Plastic SurgeonBoston
