Are steroid injections on the nose linked to fungal acne ?

Ive never had acne as an adult and im 30 but i recently had a breakout which I suspect is fungal acne as its very itchy on my cheeks, over the counter treatment helps but it doesn’t eliminate it. I’m trying to figure out the cause at the time I broke out my hormones where fine I had tests, no change in diet or lifestyle. The only thing I had that was different was a steroid injection in my nose due to post surgery swelling. Could there be a correlation?

We have seen several instances of an itchy facial rash after dilute catalog injections in the nose. In our experience, this has been self-limited and has been remedied with topical hydrocortisone cream. I hope this is helpful, and I wish you well moving forward. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

Hello and thank you for your question. A local steroid injection into the nose would not cause a fungal acne. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

I suggest you see a dermatologist.
If the steroid injections were in your nose, then they shouldn’t affect your cheek.
Some of the steroid injection will become systemic but the systemic affect from a local injection is quite small.Best,
