drs. i would like to get facial implants but i have a history of older implants becoming infected or developer seroma. what are some things a dr and patient can do/take to get the best possible outcome. are there certain medications or antibiotics one can take or things that can be done in the OR to prevent infection and complications? i dont smoke or drink alcohol. i like to think i am healthy. male in his late 30s

The most likely reason for facial implant infection is contamination from mouth during implant insertion. Perioperarive and postoperative antibiotics, irrigation of implant pocket, sterile technique and postoperative oral care are some of the factors to consider. Overall infection rate for all facial implant is somewhere in 1% range or lower. This should be discussed with your surgeon ahead of surgery. Hope this helps.
