Tanning can permanently darken your incision lines, leading to more obvious scarring. Different doctors have different opinions on this issue, so be sure to discuss tanning with your surgeon prior to resuming. However, in general, tanning is not recommended because it causes wrinkles to develop sooner!
I advise all of my patients to refrain from tanning bed use. Not only is sun exposure/tanning bed us terrible for scarring, but it also significantly increases your risk of skin cancer and accelerates the aging process. Any time you are exposed to the sun, you should be wearing SPF 30 or more. For the incision sites, we recommend Biocorneum scar gel as it provides a protective silicone layer over the scar and has SPF 30.
Sunbed tanning is not recommended due to the incidence of skin cancer. However if you choose to use sunbeds it is recommended you cover the scar to avoid hyper pigmentation (darkening). Best of luck.
Hi.. thank you for the question... The sunbed have a hight incident in causing skin cancer... I do not recommend it never. Every plastic surgeon have there indication to sun exposure.. I recommend my patients 2 months without sun exposure.
First of all thank you for the question. I don't typically recommend sun tanning due to the high risk of skin cancer. However, if you choose to do so, I would recommend not tanning for 2 months post op. Then after 2 months, if you choose to tan, make sure to use sun screen and cover the incisions well to avoid hyper pigmentation. As always I would recommend that you discuss this matter with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and follow his or her advice. Best of Luck.
We advise all of our Breast Augmentation post op patients to wait at least a month before tanning. And when they do tan, use sunscreen and cover the incisions with silicone sheeting if possible, or bandaids.
It is best to always cover your scars when you tan indoor or outdoor. A lot of patients think tanning the incisions will help them blend, and that is incorrect. The incisions actually do not tan, but instead can become darker. I recommend that my patients wait at least 4 weeks after surgery before returning to tanning, and always cover the incisions when doing so.
I think petite women look better with a high profile implant. The higher profile implant has a narrower base width and tends to fit the natural breast dimensions better.
I would ask your plastic surgeon.  Each plastic surgeon has a slightly different "formula", and I think in general it is better to let the plastic surgeon remove the dressing when he or she checks you rather than doing it on your own. For my patients that have had breast augmentation, I...
I let my patients know beforehand that it is likely they will be able to feel their breast implant at its base. Although this is not universal, it should be considered as part of having implants. It should not distract you from the other benefits of augmentation
