I have had multiple traumas to my nose when I was a teenager and my septum has deviated severely as I have grown older (currently 39yo). Will a septoplasty change the bump in my nose as well as straighten it or would I have to have rhinoplasty as well?
Answer: Septoplasty Looking at your photos it looks like you would benefit from septorhinoplsaty to straighten your nose and smooth out the bumps. Septoplasty alone does not change the bump.

Answer: Septoplasty or septorhinoplasty Hi there. A standard septoplasty straightens the nasal septum, which is the cartilage and bony partition between your two nasal passages. This is performed through an incision in the lining of your nose. Typically, there is no change in the outside appearance of the nose, unless too much septum is removed and the nose loses structure. A septorhinoplasty involves straightening the nasal septum both inside your nose and at the top of your septum (dorsal septum). This dorsal septum is the part that makes up the bridge of your nose. From your photos, your dorsal septum (which is the middle part of your nose) is crooked, likely from previous trauma. Only a septorhinoplasty will straighten this area. This will likely improve your breathing more than a septoplasty alone. Any other changes to the outside appearance of your nose can be performed at the same time. Good luck.

Answer: Will septoplasty straighten my nose? Thank you for your question. Septoplasty is a surgical procedure which generally entails modification of the cartilage of the nasal septum. It is undertaken to improve symptomatic nasal airway obstruction when deviation or crookedness of the septum is judged to contribute to those symptoms. In most cases, septoplasty will not change the outside shape of the nose. If you find your nasal appearance to be unsatisfactory, you may be a candidate for rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty is undertaken to improve the shape and/or size of the nose. For individualized advice, consult with a qualified nasal surgeon about your concerns. Good luck to you.

Answer: Rhinoplasty to straighten the nose and septoplasty to improve breathing A septoplasty is performed in the back of the nose to remove obstructing cartilage and bone that is blocking airflow through the nose. This is performed once medical necessity has been documented after an examination and consultation. A septoplasty will not change the shape of the nose. A rhinoplasty was performed to straighten the nose and change the shape and make it more symmetrical. A rhinoplasty will not improve air flow through the nose. A rhinoplasty and a septoplasty are 2 completely separate operations, and both can be performed at the same time under one anesthetic with one recovery period. Answer: Will septoplasty straighten my nose? Hi,A septoplasty will correct the cartilaginous bend to the nose but not the boney portion, that will need a rhinoplastyFor that reason a rhinoseptoplasty will most often be needed to straighten a crooked nose. The upper third of the nose is bone and when that is deviated or bent it will need to be straightened by repositioning the bone. The lower two thirds are cartilage and they can largely be corrected by a septoplasty that aims to straighten the sheet of cartilage that runs down the middle of the nose and seperates the left and right nasal airway. It is possible that the other cartilages ofthe lower 2 thirds of the nose will need to be altered, and this again is part of a rhinoplasty. So the true approach to the entire nose that is crooked will be a septorhinoplastyI hope that helps and makes some senseJeremy Hunt
