I am looking to increase projection of recessed and improve definition of jaw. I am wondering if a chin implant might cause over accentuation of the labiomental groove/crease. I am looking to get as much projection as possible.
Answer: What would be most appropriate in my case: sliding genioplasty or chin implant? ( Thank you for your question and images. A clinical examination would be required to assess the way your teeth come together (occlusion). The most definitive way to improve your chin projection would be lower jaw advancement or orthognathic surgery. This does not change the labiomental sulcus and is the most powerful way to improve lower jaw projection. Saying that it is very dependent on your occlusion. If you have normal occlusion I would recommend a sliding genioplasty. This has the greatest longevity and has other advantages for your neck line. Both a sliding genioplasty and chin implant can influence the labiomental sulcus. If that occurs you will just have to consider using filler or fat grafting to soften the fold. RegardsDr Guy Watts

Answer: Chin Implant v. Sliding Genioplasty It is impossible to tell from a side view alone whether a chin implant or a sliding genioplasty would be best as each one creates a similar result. It is the front and oblique view pictures where the differences become apparent. Either one will deepen your labiodental sulcus since that is a fixed anatomic structure.

Answer: Chin implant candidate for augmentation Chin implants are manufactured in a variety of sizes and shapes, and can be inserted under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. A sliding genioplasty must be performed under general anesthesia by an oral surgeon with an overnight hospital stay. For many examples of chin implants, please see the link and video below

Answer: What would be most appropriate in my case: sliding genioplasty or chin implant? Hi, based upon the attached photo your chin is quite weak. Chin augmentation, with a chin implant, can add volume to the chin creating harmony and balance to the lower face. I have performed many chin implant surgeries over the past 30 years and these are safe, quick and highly effective. The sliding genioplasty is much more of an invasive procedure compared to placement of a chin implant through an incision under the chin (not through the mouth). Hope this helps.

Answer: Sliding genioplasty or chin implant A chin implant would do just fine.In my humble opinion, whoever is offering genioplasties as a substitute, where a simple chin implant will do, is plain wrong.I have stated my position, on this site, many times. You don't have to reinvent the wheel. I think its poor choice for a simple chin augmentation.
