Hello! Thank you for your question! On average, a period of approximately 3-4 weeks on average is typical. Submerging in stagnant water, be it bathtubs, jacuzzis, pools, lakes, oceans, etc. can certainly increase your chance for infections. I usually await the incisions to be fully healed prior to allowing for this type of activity. If you do have any wound issues or delayed healing, expect that you will be restricted from doing such things. However, I allow my patients to shower and clean incisions at 3 days postoperative. Regardless, the answer will vary amongst plastic surgeons and you should discuss this with your surgeon and follow his/her instructions. Best wishes!
Most patients heal well after breast reduction and are able to swim 3-4 weeks after surgery. But, if there are any areas of the incisions that heal slowly and are not sealed, you should wait to get in the pool or ocean until they are well healed.
You will get differing opinions concerning swimming after surgery. I usually recommend waiting at least 4 weeks after your surgery before swimming.
I would wait until all wounds are fully healed, and at least 3 weeks after surgery to prevent internal bleeding by the increase in blood pressure and heart rate associated with exercise. Keep in mind that exercise will increase the swelling that you will have, just like any increase in activity.
In general, we recommend waiting six weeks after breast reduction before swimming or any other strenuous activity. The wounds need to be fully healed first. Better safe than sorry!
I will allow patients to swim leisurely by about 6 weeks provided that they are completely healed. But you should ask your surgeon.
Only as soon as your chosen surgeon OKs you doing this activity. Over the internet we can ONLY give you a range - 3 weeks...
Hi Keydreamer. All incision need to be closed prior to soaking in the bath and swimming in the ocean or swimming pool. If you have scabbing and/or open non healing areas than I suggest waiting until these heal completely. Of course, you may want to contact your doctors office to make sure these are their suggestions as well.
In most cases spider veins (telangiectasias) will improve over time after Kenalog or other cortisone type injection. If they don't,you can consider a quick pulsed dye type laser or IPL for improvement.
While the breasts will most likely be healed sufficiently after six months, I recommendwaiting nine to 12 months after breast reduction surgery to have a mammogram, which willbecome your new baseline. The mammogram generally should not have any negativeimpact on your breasts post-surgery. ...
If very asymmetric then a revision would be necessary. This would involve opening the same incisions and removing additional breast tissue. If your original surgery was done under insurance, the revision may be done as a scar revision and insurance may pay for it.
