Back in the late 1980s, it was already shown that the optimal window for treating scars from any cause, whether trauma, surgery, infection (like chickenpox), or acne was between weeks eight to twelve following the inciting event. The procedure was referred to then as "scarabrasion," since dermabrasion was the recommended treatment at the time. Today, a number of other treatment modalities are available. By week eight, evolving scars have healed enough to be strong enough to withstand scar improvement treatments. After week twelve, evolving scars become "mature" scars, and the likelihood of achieving more than between a sixty to eighty percent overall improvement in appearance goes down significantly. So, now would be the wise time to consult with a board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I understand you are concerned with the appearance of your scars. As your scars heal, it should flatten out and lighten. Loss of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation may also be experienced but will resolve over time. Always follow your surgeon's post operative care instructions when it comes to scar management to avoid any complications like infection and for faster healing and recovery.
